(LONDON, England)— Finding housing in London, one of the most expensive cities in the world, has become increasingly more difficult in recent years as rent prices have risen across the city.

The costs of rent, as well as food and other necessities, have continued to increase in Britain’s capital, making it difficult for those living in the city to keep up with the cost of living.

From 2019 to 2024, rent in London increased by approximately 32% on average, according to data from the UK’s housing platform Spareroom.

Ruth Stainer, a 24-year-old renter in London, said, “I had a relatively easy experience at finding housing in London but I think my experience was definitely a really good example of it’s who you know, and connections that really help you find flats in the city.”

There has been public pushback regarding increasing monthly rent, and the British government has instituted several measures to prevent costs from rising further.

The UK government is currently finalizing the Renters’ Rights bill in order to keep costs down for those renting in London.
